The Written Word: The iconAclass Manifesto is a book by Will Brooks, perhaps more widely known under his Emcee name dälek, in collaboration with graphic design artist Thomas Reitmayer.

The Written Word: The iconAclass Manifesto is a collection of all iconAclass lyrics to date. Focussing heavily on the lyrical side of HipHop, Brooks' lyrics deal with everything from race relations to religion to corporate greed, putting a spotlight on the culture of HipHop itself with countless references to artists past and present.

Foreword by Adam Jones of Tool, and contributions and quotes by the Melvins, Hans-Joachim Irmler (Faust), Charles Hayward (This Heat), and Prince Paul.

"The Written Word is an extension of what makes dälek the incredible musical force that he is. It's a sense of understanding the world around him and translating that into an artistic statement that moves people. It's punk, it's HipHop, it's radical idealism done with a style so unique it can only come from a true visionary" - Iann Robinson

A 24 page zine with texts and photography by my friend Paulo Doms. "I Paid The World To Watch Me Fail" is a collage of the anger and frustration as well as the joy and the lust in a person's life.

"Like a wise old honky tonk poet once said: "This city life has really got me down", and you can see the suffocating influence of our society reflected in Paulo's prose. It is hard to make sense of everything around us, and for those with sensitive souls/hearts/minds it can be overwhelming. After having received these texts, and having met Paulo, I can honestly say that some people are all talk... and he is definitely not one of them! He is inquisitive, honest and intense. Qualities that can be felt when you see him perform, but that certainly also spill over onto the printed page. He lives it. Seeing him work so hard to find his rhythm (not something prescribed) is not only inspiring, but something we all should strive to do. Keep the words coming!"

Each zine contains a handwritten poem by Paulo Doms.

People, places, faces, noise, beauty, ugliness, life and death. Thirty-two black and white pro printed pages of b/w analog photography.

"Thomas Reitmayer. A man with a plan. What plan is that? I have no fucking clue. I bet he doesn't either, but that's fine. The plan at hand and the ends to achieve are unimportant. The thing to pay attention to is the means. You see, I know for a fact that Thomas is a big fan of Ed Templeton, of the Dischord and SST labels and artists, and (...) of Glen E Friedman. Like them, his work ethic is one based on effort and love. Giving 1000% just because you love what you're doing. Rewards and end results are unimportant. You do your shit. And everything else is just filler. Gray area. Bubble wrap around a new shiny toy. This becomes much too evident looking at the images before you."
